asl crossroads :
aar central a b : sp23 : Assault on the Hotel Continental -
Schwerpunkt 23 Niall set up in a dispersed fashion with the obligitory 9-2, 548, HMG in the second level looking uber alles. The rest of the Troopers were sprinkeld in different buildings with a few dummies, here and there. He uses the rubble to deny most of the stairwells and clear fields of fire for Leutnant Ubermensch and his HMG. The Kiwis have three Shermans and two companies with a paucity of MGs but with three wonderful s7 light mortars. I set up two flanking platoons and a central weighted, ram it up the center push. Turn 1 He made some small adjustments and used assault movement to take his guys out of LOS and then advanced back to covering positions. Drop some smoke, kill some dummies. Flankers Double Time along the edges. Turn 2 Outpost HS makes a futile Point Blank shot at the company commander and 2x458s. Eats lead and breaks on the DFPh. 548 moves out to interdict the Board 1 flankers, gets a lucky shot by the flankers Armour support and a K. Agressive movement up the center nets some broken squadies and a dead full squad from the HMG position. I'm always too agressive *shrug*. Tank loses smoke and switches to another location for a HE shot. (Is that legal? If I lose smoke on a shot, it is as if the shot never occured. BUT does that mean that I can pick another target?) Turn 3 He takes an agressive move to counter my board 20 flankers and pays with dead Jerries in the street. I'm unsure about his motive for that but happy to punish him for his move. SAN 6 nets me a wounded Company Cdr. I try to overrun his strongpoint behind a wall with my central tank and pay for it with a greasy funeral pyre from a 4 on his PF shot. I move into position further for the main push. Another SAN kills my un- lucky Company Cdr. Turn 4 He breaks two squads and starts to move his flank protection back toward the Hotel. My DFPh breaks his forward strongpoint (2x548, lmg). PFPh shot by his 9-2 and HMG brings me a 'magic' HOB (battle harden and hero) to my 8-1. Gusts come up on wind change. I take a shot with the Light Mortar for smoke. (Is that legal? Our reading determined that existing smoke is dispersed, and dispersed disappears, But what about a new shot? Is it disperesd or NA or full?). Other prep fire breaks Luetnant Arschloch and pins his HMG squad from my heroic 9-1 and two lmg squads (sweet justice!). I move everyone in for the kill and on another overly agressive move, his DFF on a 458 rolls a simple MC which my guys pass with an HOB and a hero!! Tanks move in and his broken point squadies are surrounded. Player break ensues and the game is mine. Fun little scenario, worth a play. We're going to switch sides and play it agian. Don |
